The Bouchardon Mill, Crozant
Armand Guillaumin worked alongside Paul Cézanne and Vincent van Gogh, and in his later paintings expressed intense color through thick, bold brushstrokes. In this work, the Creuse River flows between rugged rocks, while a tall tree with golden autumn leaves signals the season. From 1892 to 1924, Guillaumin often visited Crozant in central France and painted all six of the town’s mills. Here, the roof of the Bouchardon mill can be glimpsed among the dense trees.
