In the 1890s, Henri-Edmond Cross settled in the south of France and dedicated himself to painting sunlit Mediterranean landscapes. In this work, he applied the Pointillist technique, repeating dots of bright, unmixed color. The shaded foreground and distant hills are rendered in cool tones of purple and blue, while the sunlit areas glow in warm yellows and oranges, creating a striking contrast. The result is a vision of pure, unspoiled natural beauty, seemingly untouched by human presence.
